It’s Friday, and summer is on my mind; the sun is shining, temperatures are high, and people are out and about wearing their summer-y outfits that have me even more excited for the season. I’ll be spending a chunk of time in Italy, so I’m already planning outfits for my super-hot, super-humid days there. And while I’m obviously packing skirts and dresses—the breeziest attire there is—Dakota Johnson just reminded me about the sexy, simple, and oh-so comfy summer piece that needs to be in my suitcase.
The actress has been busy filming in New York City, and when she’s not on set, she’s taking over the streets of the Big Apple in casual, cool, comfy, and subtly sexy looks that deserve a spot in everyone’s rotation. Johnson’s blue maxi dress throws it back to the tube dresses you might have worn in the 2000s. It has a strapless upper and super-straight, sleek silhouette that’s slightly body-hugging without looking or feeling too constricting. Of course there are various types of tube dresses. Some are super tight, some lean more elegant, others have fun detailing, like this Anthropologie number, but the DNA is all the same: a simple, well, tube style you’ll wear all season long.
Johnson paired hers with strappy heels, but given that I’ll be buying this dress in abundance for my upcoming Italy trip, I plan on wearing it with crisp white sneakers and ballet flats—both of which are feasible footwear options. When I want to dress it up for, say, a nice dinner, maybe I’ll opt for a pump à la Johnosn. But what I love about the tube silhouette is that it’s so easy to dress up or down—meaning I can pack less in my suitcase because I can wear the one-piece on multiple occasions. Obsessed!

Emily Ratajkowski is bringing back a Y2K trend that looks like it’s straight from a 2007-era gym class. On May 31, the Victoria’s Secret star stepped out in New York City with a casual street style ‘fit featuring a low-slung pair of light gray sweatpants paired with a tiny long-sleeved bra top. EmRata paid homage to the noughties by styling the athletic piece with the top rolled down, giving a glimpse of her toned midriff.

It’s been a bikini-fueled start to summer for the model, who turned heads in a white jumpsuit paired with a string bikini top in Monaco at the Formula 1 Grand Prix just days earlier. She also wore a two-piece swimsuit printed with photos of women wearing bikinis and lingerie.

Attending The Watchers premiere in London, Fanning wore a breezy strapless dress that included a waist-cinching belt, natural hue, and floral decals at the hem. Ending the film festival on a fashion high note, the actress attended the event’s closing ceremony on Saturday in a strapless black dress that perfectly embodied the coquette trend. Affixed to the front of her dress at an angle, the bow partially covered Moore’s right shoulder and drew the eye up to her gorgeous diamond drop earrings. Moore has spent the past week in Cannes promoting her new horror film The Substance, which earned itself an 11-minute standing ovation during its first screening. The award-winning actress said that she’s “humbled and excited” by the movie’s reception, and revealed that she almost quit acting before starring in the film.
“There hasn’t been a project or a role that has come along that has been this dynamic for me to really dive into and sink my teeth into,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “I went through a period of even questioning whether this is what I should still be doing. In the last four years or so, I felt that it was a personal question that I wanted to explore and see. Was this where I should be putting my energy? When you plant seeds, you wait to see what grows.”

On Thursday, Turner was photographed in Barcelona, Spain, for the runway show with a bouncy lob styled in a deep millennial side part and subtle waves that hit right at her shoulders.
Sophie Turner paired the cut with a millennial-pink suit. The straight-leg trousers had a seam detail down the front, while the button-up jacket had embroidered pockets and button-embellished belt loops on her midsection. A skinny red belt with a gold, logo-embossed buckle wrapped around her waist, and a white, top-handle purse completed the look.
Turner is a longtime ambassador of the brand and also attended its Fall/Winter 2024/2025 show in Paris last March. For almost a decade now, Cameron Diaz’s public outings have been few and far between. But with a new movie coming out soon and her organic wine brand, the actress has been slowly stepping back into the spotlight, and making her outfits count with each appearance.
Case in point? On Friday, Diaz made a rare debut at the 2024 BottleRock Music Festival in Napa while wearing the controversial Canadian tuxedo. Demonstrating how to double up on denim the right way, the Charlie’s Angels alum wore a pair of high-waisted, baggy jeans in a medium wash with a matching denim blouse that put a twist on the classic chambray shirt. Rather than a typical button-down, Diaz’s top came in a henley style and featured a deep V with a row of undone buttons. She accessorized her denim-on-denim look with white sneakers and stacked bracelets, while her signature blonde hair was worn down in loose waves with a middle part.

Later this year, Diaz, who took an extended break from acting, will be going on a press tour for her upcoming Netflix film, Back in Action—which means many more style moments are on the horizon. Back in October, Diaz spoke about coming out of retirement for the upcoming action flick, starring Jamie Foxx, while making an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “It’s a little bit of muscle memory, you know what I mean? I did that for so long, it’s kind of like the process—I just fell back into it,” she said. “But it feels a little bit different.”
She continued, “The last movie I made was Annie with Jamie, and so the first movie back is this film with Jamie. He’s so great, he’s so easy, he’s so professional, he’s so talented. And just being able to work with him, it’ll be so much fun.”
DREAM TEAM: Dior has put together its own Dream Team ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The French fashion house is bolstering its brand ambassador ranks with 15 top international female athletes, WWD has learned.
Five-time Olympic gold medalist Elaine Thompson-Herah of Jamaica, the fastest woman alive, will join U.S. soccer player Alex Morgan, the Olympic gold medalist and two-time World Cup winner who is expected back on the pitch after being sidelined by an ankle injury.
Hawaiian surfer Carissa Moore, the first winner of the Olympic gold medal in women’s short board surfing at the Tokyo 2020 Games, is also among the list of sporting heroes representing Dior, which belongs to luxury conglomerate LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, a premium partner of the Paris Games.
In addition, the brand has tapped swimmer Emma McKeon, Australia’s most decorated Olympian with 11 medals in total, and Japanese fencer Misaki Emura.
There are six Italian athletes: fencers Rossella Fiamingo, Alice Volpi and Arianna Errigo, and Paralympic fencers Beatrice “Bebe” Vio Grandis, Andreea Mogos and Loredana Trigilia.
From France, Team Dior will include boxer Estelle Mossely, skateboarder Louise-Aina Taboulet, fencer Sara Balzer and judoka Clarisse Agbégnénou, who hopes to reap a second Olympic gold medal after her win at the Tokyo Games.

Dior and LVMH had previously revealed three joint ambassadors: gymnast Mélanie de Jesus dos Santos, wheelchair tennis player Pauline Déroulède and Para-cyclist Marie Patouillet, who was among a group of athletes who carried the Olympic torch on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday.
Vio Grandis, who appeared in the campaign for the house’s Lady 95.22 handbag last year, also walked the Cannes red carpet last week dressed in Dior.
A series of portraits of the participating athletes will go on show at Le Café Dior in La Galerie Dior at the brand’s historic flagship in Paris from July 24 to Sept. 9.
“The exhibition is a celebration of surpassing performance and an invitation to continually push the boundaries of creativity in the name of passion and freedom,” Dior said.
Several LVMH houses are playing roles during the Games, including Berluti, set to dress the French teams for the opening ceremonies slated July 26 and Aug. 28; Chaumet, whose Olympic and Paralympic medals include a piece of the Eiffel Tower, and Vuitton, which has created bespoke trunks to house the torches and medals.
On Tuesday night, Dior hosted a lavish dinner to celebrate the opening of Judy Chicago’s retrospective at the Serpentine Galleries in London.
During the night, Chicago shared with guests how her collaboration with Dior has changed the way she perceives fashion.
“When we were in Paris, I went to the Dior archive and they pulled out unbelievable pieces with incredible needlework. As you know from the show, I’ve done a lot of designing with needlework. I’m thinking to myself, I have more in common with the reverence for craft in fashion than I do with the disdain for craft in contemporary art,” she said.
The 85-year-old American artist said before meeting Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director of women’s haute couture, ready-to-wear and accessories for Dior, her attitude toward fashion was that it is “inherently oppressive to women.”
“I had no experience with fashion. I didn’t care about fashion, I only cared about making art,” Chicago added.
“In the 1980s when I was touring, I had a fashion designer from Los Angeles on the board of the small nonprofit that sponsored the grassroots tour. She would send me clothes for the opening and one day I opened the box and had this beautiful crochet top in it, and it said $1,200. You have to realize I never spent more than $400 for a dress some years later and that was my wedding dress,” recalled Chicago on her early encounter with designer fashion.

Many years later, Chiuri reminded Chicago how important fashion can be for a feminist like herself. The two would eventually collaborate on The Female Divine project, an immersive work for the brand’s spring 2020 couture show. Chicago has also designed bags and plates for Dior and is currently working on another design project for the house that will be revealed later this year.
“In one of my early conversations with her, Maria Grazia said to me ‘Fashion is about the female body,’ something that I haven’t thought about. What came to my mind is that feminist art started with a battle around the female body, reclaiming the female body, from centuries of the male gaze, which fetishized it, diminished it, used it, and exploited it. My generation of artists began to change that,” she said.
“I think people don’t understand the importance of her being the first female creative director of Dior, not only that she’s made the platform for feminist art and women photographers with a new view of the female body. But also, Dior has a huge reach, which I learned from ‘The Female Divine’ project.…When they sent me the press book, it was 1,000 pages long, which meant Dior brought my work and my vision to people all over the world,” added Chicago.

At the center of the retrospective, which opens to the public on Thursday and runs until Sept. 1 with Dior being the headline sponsor, is an unpublished manuscript, called “Revelations,” a creation myth told from a woman’s point of view — full of drawings and writings that she’d made while formulating ideas for “The Dinner Party” — that had been stuck in a drawer at Chicago’s home in New Mexico for 50 years.
When she showed Hans Ulrich Obrist, the curator and artistic director of the Serpentine Galleries, he was hooked and decided that it prefigured Chicago’s entire body of work, and he would build the Serpentine show — the first interdisciplinary exhibition in London of Chicago’s work — around it.
“We met about 10 years ago when we did this marathon festival where we bring together artists from all different disciplines under the topic of transformation. She participated in that and that was the beginning of a dialogue,” recalled Obrist. “We begin with this idea about what artists want to do. It is more than an exhibition, we help them to realize an unrealized project.
“Judy said she had a new topic, but it had just been realized by Dior, which is a very big inflatable sculpture. I visited her again and I said: ‘There must be something else.’ I just kept asking that same question again and again, and all of a sudden, she remembered that there was this incredible manuscript. She managed to finish it right before the show starts,” said Obrist, adding that the Chicago exhibition is a key part of the art institute’s summer program, which also includes a Yinka Shonibare solo exhibition at Serpentine South and the upcoming reveal of the new Serpentine Pavilion designed by Seoul-based Korean architect Minsuk Cho.

Compliments for the artist continued at dinner, held at the Magazine Café, adjacent to the gallery space inside Hyde Park.
“They really shake you up. They have a very strong offense, sort of visceral. I really enjoy that. I was at the [Dior haute couture spring 2020] show when Judy did the set. That was beautiful,“ said Kristin Scott Thomas, who was seated at one of the long dinner tables festooned with candles and flowers arranged in a scarlet and purple ombre.
On top of modeling for Miu Miu’s fall 2024 show in Paris, Scott Thomas is working on the fifth season of the Apple TV+ drama “Slow Horses.” She plays Diana Taverner, the deputy director general of MI5 in the spy thriller, based on the “Slough House” series of novels by Mick Herron.
